Abstract

The professionalism of teachers and lecturers has become a very important topic for teachers and lecturers in Indonesia recently because all teachers and lecturers have been and will be certified as competent and professional teachers. However, their perception of professionalism and how to achieve it may still vary. In this short article, I try to discuss the meaning and characteristics of professional teachers and lecturers and how to achieve them through research activities and publications in national and international journals. Success in researching and publishing in reputable national and international journals is an effective way to achieve professional teacher and lecturer status which can have an impact on students and fellow teachers and lecturers. Therefore, teachers and lecturers should always research and publish their research results in prestigious journals to be used by other teachers and lecturers even though the teacher and lecturer are retired.
